There has been lots of design technology going on this week.

Year 1 began their minibeast topic on mechanisms, where they learned about creating sliding and pivoting movements as well as levers.

Year 2 continued to consider how axles and wheels work together. As teams, the children came up with ideas of how to combine junk modelling with axles and wheels to copy the features of various vehicles.

Year 3 begun to make functional mini greenhouses based upon their designs, taking into consideration the properties of the materials available and thinking about how to join them together, without it loosing its functionality.

Year 4 made a basic pneumatic system and went on to design the art work for it and think about how to join it together so it maintains its functionality.

Year 5 continued making the frames to their moving cam toys, with the sides, and roof parts to the frames affixed as well as accurately measuring holes to cut to place their dowelling for the mechanisms

Year 6 investigated the optimal heights for arches to support weight after learning about the history of arches (https://science.howstuffworks.com/engineering/civil/bridge5.htm for more information on this topic)
