In Year 6, we have been exploring the drums. The drums are a part of the percussion family of instruments, as they must tapped or scraped inorder to be played. Other percussion instruments include: piano, xylophone, tamberine, maracas.

Drums, are part of the ‘unpitched’ category of percussive instruments, as they have no pitch. Drums are often considered the heart of a band or orchestra, as they keep a steady pulse. However, drummers do more than this, oftening layering on top of the pulse a range of complex rhythmic patterns.

Every Year 6 student got a chance to play on our class drum kit, keeping a stead pulse on the ‘high hat’, and playing the bass drum and snare drum on opposite beats.

We hope you enjoy our drumming fun!
