In Year 5 we have been very busy studying different way to crack codes. For example; we have been looking at how the Enigma machine sent messages long distances.

This week we have been creating and decoding our own secret messages using the ‘Caesar and Substitution ciphers’. This is where the smaller wheel is turned a certain number of shifts to the right, for example;

7 shifts:

The letter ‘A’ decodes to the letter ‘E’

The letter ‘B’ decodes to the letter ‘F’, and so on.

This is very tricky to understand, but we did our best to work together and persevere to crack the code.

Here are some pictures showing our determination to crack these tricky codes.
