This week nursery are learning about and celebrating the Chinese New Year. Children have learnt about the traditions that take place during this celebration for example, watching dragon dances, dressing up, decorating with lanterns, putting money into an envelope as gifts, the importance of the colour red and eating yummy food with chopsticks. Children also learnt that it is the year of the rabbit.

Children not only made their own lanterns but also had a chance to experience dressing up in traditional Chinese clothing, cooking noodles and serving them at their very own Chinese restaurant. We spoke about menus and chopsticks which for most of our children was very new and unfamiliar. We also taught children some numbers in the Chinese language.
