This week is British Science Week! In accordance with this, the year 5 children have been exploring the effects of exercise on the heart and our bodies. The first question to explore was “What happens to our heart rate after we exercise?” The children found out how to locate the pulse and how to measure heart rate using the pulse. First, children measured their resting heart rate. Afterwards, they went through a variety of exercises and measured their heart rates after one, two and three minutes to see if there was a difference. As expected, many children discovered their heart rates increased depending on the amount of exercise that was completed.
