The children have been reading the story ‘Beegu.’ They have been looking at images from the story and have sequenced the story as a group. Referring to the sequenced images, the children were asked to shut their eyes and imagine the world where Beegu comes from. They were provided with question prompts to support their thinking: What would the sky look like? What will the landscape be? What might you see? What might you hear? What colours would there be? Children were encouraged to use descriptive vocabulary. Then the children were invited to draw on a piece of plain paper in the centre of the page. The children were asked to describe this scene by annotating with expanded noun phrases onto the paper. After, the children wrote the ‘opening’ and ‘build up’ of the story by referring to the images that they sequenced previously and their annotations, moving onto the ‘resolution’ and ‘ending’ of the story.
