For Autism Acceptance Week, the ARP staff wanted to include families and parent/ carers at home so everyone was included and shared the experience with the children on this particularly important week for the ARP, the staff and the children.

We asked the families at home to spend time with their children decorating and cutting out a hand template. On this hand template, we asked the parent/carers to write a brief reason why they are proud of their child. This was a nice way for them to express their feelings and proud emotions. It also gave the parents a chance to read and find out what other parents thought of their own children. All the comments are amazing, beautifully written and truly spoken from the heart!

We understood that some parents/carers will not be able to come to school, so to accommodate this and give them a chance to be included, we asked those families to take a picture of themselves and their child with the decorated hand, and send it to the teachers. We printed these out and placed them up on the board alongside the hands, as all children and families are important to us.

Below are some pictures of the parents/ carers with their children placing their hands up onto the boards we set up, and those children who came by transport were encouraged to pin their hands up and have a picture taken doing so.

The staff at the ARP would like to say a huge thank you for so many families supporting this cause and taking part in the activities. It is really warming to see so many families wanting to take part and be involved.
