Yet again, the teachers in Year 1 have been very impressed with all the work that we have received this week. You have terrified us with your very scary beast drawings and descriptions. Mrs Rashid has been particularly pleased with your fantastic learning about plants.

In writing this week, you will start again by listening to a fiction story – ‘Halibut Jackson’. You will then have the chance to use the espresso site to answer comprehension questions and to use the pictures to sequence the story in its correct order. Using your phonics and high frequency word mats to help with spelling, you will then retell the story in your own words. Remember to use the punctuation you have been learning about (full stops, capital letters, exclamation and question marks) as well as fantastic adjectives. This is a chance to show off your fantastic writing skills!
For your maths learning, you will return to looking at multiplication. Mr Sreetharan has created a daily powerpoint with activities to complete each day. You can use counters, cubes or other concrete resources to using grouping to find the answers. You can even use pictures to show your calculations. Each morning, warm up your maths brains by counting forwards and backwards in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s – just like we do in class.
In curriculum this week, there will be further work on observing and learning about nature. This week you will study trees to find out the difference between evergreen and deciduous trees. Again, there is lots of opportunity to explore your local area, be that in your garden, local roads or in the park!
Remember to continue to use bug club for reading and TT Rockstars for maths challenges each week.
We look forward to seeing all of your great work in your Class Dojo portfolio.
